The Best Nursing Homes in Illinois

You’ve made the difficult decision to place your elderly parent in a nursing home. But, with so many facilities to choose from, how do you find the right one? They all promise to keep your loved one safe; how can you know whom to trust? Each year, U.S. News & World Report evaluates thousands of facilities across the country and publishes the results. Their 2018-19 recommendations for the best nursing homes in Illinois will help you make a more informed decision.

U.S. News & World Report evaluated 733 nursing homes in Illinois using a comprehensive rating system. Results were based on star ratings from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) for staffing, inspections and quality. However, while CMS bases its overall ratings on inspections, U.S. News placed its emphasis on staffing.

In addition, a new rating was added this year for short-term rehabilitative stays. This rating evaluated the care provided to patients needing temporary services after being hospitalized for a stroke, surgery or serious injury.

The Best Nursing Homes in Illinois

U.S. News & World Report designated a total of 160 homes as best. Listings include the facilities’ ratings, number of beds and participation with Medicare and/or Medicaid. The report also indicates whether the homes are owned by for-profit or non-profit companies or individuals.

Here are the best nursing homes in Illinois, according to U.S. News & World Report’s 2018-19 evaluation. The homes on this list received top ratings for both long-term and short-term care.

Visit Prospective Homes Before You Decide

While ratings are helpful tools, nothing takes the place of an in-person visit. Once you have narrowed down your options, visit each facility several times. Stop by at different times on weekdays and weekends. Feel free to show up unannounced, as this is the best way to see the nursing home’s staffing and the home’s conditions when they aren’t prepared for visitors. Don’t be afraid to ask questions.

And, if you suspect your loved one is being abused or neglected in a nursing home, call us immediately. We will help ensure their safety and win the compensation you and your family deserve.

Nursing home neglect and abuse law is complicated, but finding the right lawyer is simple.
