The Best Nursing Homes in Chicago

Nursing homes in Chicago

Moving an elderly parent to a nursing home is a difficult decision for any family member to make. Nonetheless, when a loved one can no longer live independently, a nursing home may be the best option. Yet, with so many factors to consider, choosing the right facility is not a simple task. You need a place that is affordable and conveniently located. Most importantly, you want a home where your parent or parents will be safe, happy and well cared for. Here is a guide to the best nursing homes in Chicago based on the latest data from U.S. News & World Report.

How does U.S. News & World Report rate nursing homes?

Every year, U.S. News & World Report researchers evaluate and rank thousands of nursing homes and hospitals across the country. They analyze a comprehensive array of data collected by the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). This information, derived from health inspections and other sources, includes factors such as staffing ratios, medical care and rehabilitation.

In addition, a new rating was added this year for short-term rehabilitative stays. This rating reflects the care received by patients needing temporary care after being hospitalized for a stroke, surgery or serious injury. The overall ratings also put a greater emphasis on staffing than in previous years.

Those on the Best Nursing Homes list received high-performance ratings in one or both of the Overall or Short-Stay Rehabilitation categories and average or above ratings in the other.
